Beyond the Mask: From Knowing Your Customer to the Masquerade After-Party

As the mobile industry gathers once again in Barcelona, anticipation builds around a week of conversations, connections, and fresh perspectives across markets, sectors, and disciplines worldwide today. Leaders and innovators will come together to explore evolving challenges, emerging opportunities, and the direction of the digital ecosystem, setting the tone for the year ahead. MEF Director of Programmes, Nicholas Rossman, shares what attendees can expect from this year’s event and why the discussions taking place matter for the wider mobile industry.

The mobile industry is gearing up for Barcelona as the MEF Global Forum arrives on the 1st and 2nd of March.

This marks my fourth time attending, and the buzz surrounding the event is just as strong as ever.

To wrap up the afternoon, there is a look at sustainable innovation and how the industry can grow while staying mindful of its environmental impact.”

The line-up of speakers is particularly impressive this time around, and it is a privilege to see such a high standard of expertise gathered in one place. The agenda for the two days covers plenty of ground.

On Sunday, March 1st, the focus is on how we handle identity and data. One session to watch is The Future of Personal Data, which looks at how privacy and consumer trust are changing the way businesses operate. Later that day, the Global Connectivity Trends panel will dive into how different regions are building out the next generation of mobile infrastructure.

Sunday evening is when the celebrations truly begin. We will gather for the MEFFYs Award Ceremony Dinner to recognise the biggest wins and brightest ideas from the past year. This is immediately followed by the Masquerade Afterparty.

There is a certain irony in spending the day discussing identity and “Knowing Your Customer” only to spend the night behind a mask, but it should be a fantastic way to catch up with colleagues and celebrate our collective progress.

Monday, March 2nd, shifts the conversation toward the tech and tools we use every day. The morning kicks off with The State of Messaging 2026, exploring where RCS and AI are headed next. Another vital session is Fraud Prevention in the Digital Age, where experts will discuss the best ways to keep the mobile ecosystem secure. To wrap up the afternoon, there is a look at sustainable innovation and how the industry can grow while staying mindful of its environmental impact.

As the formal sessions conclude, the MEF Lounge at Cloud Dancer provides a final opportunity for relaxed networking and a chance to reflect on the week’s insights over drinks and music.
